Welcome to 50 Tabs Open! Today, I’m chatting with Mike (@adhd.mike) who’s calling Malaysia. We spoke about microtasking and masking. We also discussed how living with a fellow neurodivergent can be a blessing, and how “our misdemeanor is not always a misfortune.”
Mike is from Malaysia and recently discovered he has ADHD, a realization that came only a year ago. He reflects on how he’s always felt different, particularly in school, where he struggled to fit in with his peers. His ADHD diagnosis gave him a new perspective on his life, but he had already been adapting to his differences since childhood.
He emphasizes that despite the struggles, he never saw his differences as a misfortune, but rather a unique trait that helped him thrive.
He also highlights how his journey led him to work with special needs children and how his experience growing up with neurodivergence helped him connect with these individuals. Mike’s resilience and ability to adapt is a key theme, alongside his belief that neurodivergence is an asset in entrepreneurship, as it allows for unconventional thinking and adaptability.
He discusses the importance of partnering with someone who understands neurodivergence. His relationship with his girlfriend, a psychologist, helped him accept his ADHD and autism, and together, they navigate life without needing to mask their true selves.
Ultimately, Mike views his neurodivergence as a strength, not a limitation, and believes that embracing it fully has made him more successful and fulfilled, both personally and professionally.
